Clear Skin Made Easy

Skin conditions like acne and eczema can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. Many individuals try a variety of treatments and see little or no improvement. However, there are several tips for achieving and maintaining clear skin, many of which are simple and cheap. The following tips will help promote clear, healthy skin without breaking the bank in the process.

Don’t Over-Wash

Over-washing is common among individuals with acne and other skin conditions. However, this practice can irritate the skin, as well as strip it of its natural moisture. Cleansers with harsh exfoliants should be used infrequently, if at all. Instead, opt for gentle cleansers that wash away dirt, makeup and oil, but won’t upset the skin’s natural moisture balance. Also, choosing a facial cleanser based on your skin’s type and texture is recommended.

Moisturize and Protect

Even oily skin needs moisture. For acne-prone skin, light, water-based moisturizers work best. When dealing with conditions like eczema and severely dry skin, thicker, heavier creams can improve the skin’s hydration, as well as reduce itching and irritation.

Protecting the skin means shielding it from harmful ultraviolet rays. Excessive sun exposure can lead to breakouts, sun spots and premature aging. For optimal protection from UV rays, choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and apply daily, even when it’s rainy or cloudy. When prolonged exposure to the sun in unavoidable, carry sunscreen and reapply every couple of hours.

Repairing Damage

Lots of damage can occur as a result of acne and other skin conditions. For example, scarring is common among individuals with moderate to severe acne, and is often caused by picking or squeezing blemishes. Exfoliating may help reduce the appearance of acne scars, as can chemical peels and micro-dermabrasion techniques. However, preventing scarring is easier than treating it. For this reason, squeezing blemishes is never recommended.

Take Care of Your Health

The skin’s appearance is an outward reflection of internal health. Therefore, the way we treat our bodies has a direct effect on our skin and appearance. For clear, healthy skin, factors like nutrition, hydration and fitness levels must be taken into consideration. The following fitness and nutrition tips can help promote healthy skin:

Stay Hydrated

Insufficient fluids can lead to breakouts and lackluster skin. However, plenty of water will flush out blemish-causing impurities and leave skin hydrated and elastic.

Eat a Vitamin-Rich Diet

Vitamins like A and E work wonders for the skin, and are found in a variety of fruits, vegetables and fortified grains.

Healthy skin is just one of the many benefits of regular exercise. Workouts will improve circulation and detoxify the system, helping to reduce breakouts and improve skin’s overall appearance.
