Also, choosing a facial cleanser based on your skin’s type and texture is recommended.

Moisturize and Protect

Even oily skin needs moisture. For acne-prone skin, light, water-based moisturizers work best. When dealing with conditions like eczema and severely dry skin, thicker, heavier creams can improve the skin’s hydration, as well as reduce itching and irritation.

Protecting the skin means shielding it from harmful ultraviolet rays. Excessive sun exposure can lead to breakouts, sun spots and premature aging. For optimal protection from UV rays, choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and apply daily, even when it’s rainy or cloudy. When prolonged exposure to the sun in unavoidable, carry sunscreen and reapply every couple of hours.

Repairing Damage

Lots of damage can occur as a result of acne and other skin conditions. For example, scarring is common among individuals with moderate to severe acne, and is often caused by picking or squeezing blemishes. Exfoliating may help reduce the appearance of acne scars, as can chemical peels and micro-dermabrasion techniques. However, preventing scarring is easier than treating it. For this reason, squeezing blemishes is never recommended.
